I think of Dreams as unrealized aspirations. In my Dreams, they are the beginning of a new path on my journey. A place that I have not been but I can envision myself going or being. Some Dreams have been adventures, some have become part of my longer journey. I make a distinction from Dreams and Day Dreaming. I day dream about winning the lottery but I don't have any real influence in realizing that Dream. I believe that you do have an ability to influence your Dreams. When we tell a child that "you can be anything that you want to be" we are teaching our child to Dream. This is a gift because Dreams can be powerful motivators.
Now for a Dream to become a realized aspiration you do need some type of preparation. In preparing to realize your dream it is helpful if you have people in your life that have the same hopefulness so that when times get hard, you have a fan club to help you rally yourself to move forward. There have been times in my life when I have communicated my dream to someone and they have told me that it can't happen. Now, that made me more determined than ever to realize that dream.
Many of the Dreams that I had for myself have been realized, some have not. There is a temptation to only look at what has not happened. This can keep you from enjoying your blessing. I really believe that most people have blessings in their lives that come from their dreams. I just think that for some, enjoying their Dream Realized is not their first mindset.
So when a person shares their Dream with you try not to step on their Dream. Instead try to brainstorm with them on how they can realize their Dream. That is, if it is not about winning the lottery. Then just tell them to buy a ticket and hope.
